Nilani and Ravikanth had their Jersey City courthouse wedding on a midsummer day. They wanted to have a photo session with themselves and both the families. I met them at the Jersey City courthouse. The parents of the bride, Nilani, who is a doctor, live in Jersey City. Ravikanth is a software engineer who lives in Massachusetts. His parents had flown in from India to attend their son’s wedding. Although it was not a wedding with many guests, their parents were with them. It was the biggest day of their life and they were very happy.
After a long wait, they finally were called by the judge. It took only a few minutes to complete the process and soon all of us were headed back to Nilani’s parents’s apartment building where the photo shoot was going to take place. The apartment complex was huge and we arrived at the spacious second floor lobby. There was not much available light except for the indoor lighting and some filtered light through the shaded windows, so I decided to use off-camera flash with umbrella diffuser.
Since there was plenty of space and the setting was more or less static, I used my Nikon AF-S 85mm 1.4 lens. For a change, it was nice to shoot the entire session with a prime lens. The wide aperture afforded by this lens allowed me to mix-in enough ambient light, so the effect of the flash was barely noticeable.
