40th Birthday Party Photography New Jersey
Carrie had her 40th Birthday Party at the Veterans of Foreign Wars hall at Fairfield, NJ. I knew it was going to be a costume party but had no idea that the theme was to show up in funny trashy clothing. For that I found the guests were totally creative in the ways they dressed and they came with the idea of having a really great time. This was my first time photographing a 40th birthday party and so it was a new experience for me. I had photographed a 70th birthday party before – but that was like any other party with kids and all. This was an adults only party and probably it was the right idea given the theme. Besides everyone could be free and let go and just roll with it.
I took a bunch of photos as people started coming in. There was a mug shot background inside, and people had a lot of fun posing in front of that. There was plenty of food and drinks to keep everyone happy. Carrie awarded prizes to the first 3 winners of who had the most outrageous costume and all three awards went to the men. It was a 3 hour party and people, especially the ladies spent most of the time on the dancing floor which was great for me to take many great shots with some cool flash photography tricks. I don’t think I ever got such a high percentage of dance shots that turned out worthy of editing.
